Markus studied in Dublin, Ireland and has taught sculpture and drawing at university level for seventeen years at D I T. He also has experience working in film, theatre, design and community work. He is now concentrating on a purely fine art career, with an emphasis on sculpture.
The main materials that Markus uses are wood, stone, glass, concrete, clay and plaster. His most recent work includes the use of a lot of paint.
Markus' concern as an artist is with the invisible, to question and challenge conventional perceptions and opinions about identity, purpose and the nature of the hereafter. Relationships play a central role in his work. His work also shows a sense of humour and reflects the brighter side of life. It is his intention, through his work of sculpture and painting, to enrich the lives of his community, both locally and globally.
He has done commissions for private sculpture as well as shown his work in various international galleries over the years.
