News Flash! Private Viewing of Two Exhibitions in One!
'Pub Crawl' & 'Fire & Ice'
On Saturday, 9th May, from 2pm until 5pm, we are holding two simultaneous Private Viewings at Barnaby’s Jazz Lounge and Art Gallery, Robertson st, Hastings. Upstairs there is Markus’ one man show with his ‘Pub Crawl’ series of original card-cuts, depicting not only his choice of brilliant pubs in Hastings, but also some of their stories entwined into his pictures as well.
Meanwhile Tessa is curating a show downstairs at Barnaby’s, with 15 wonderful and diverse artists depicting their interpretations of the theme ‘Fire & Ice’, both literally and symbolically. Barnaby, meanwhile, has created a special cocktail for this show, which he called ‘Fire & Ice’ , especially for the two months this exhibition is on. Well worth a visit!

”To Paint is one of the most exciting and fulfilling things to do!”
Faces, faces, faces! I really enjoy people’s faces, always have, and particularly the eyes. And what really fascinates me are the nuances and differing spirits that shine through the different characters of those I paint.
Our ‘icon’ paintings are collaborate works, where Markus paints the background in his wild and wonderful way – carving, burning (sometimes), painting and sanding. Then he primes a space where Tessa paints a face delicately in oils.

Making art for me is a way of digesting what I encounter in life, including thoughts, concepts and feelings that arise from those experiences.
Some themes are recurring, and I find myself chewing on an idea that I had already toyed with decades ago. But questions like ‘Why?’, ‘How?’ and ‘What if?’ keep redirecting my endless search.
